Serve

"If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet,
you also ought to wash one another's feet"

John 13:14

At Cornerstone, serving is one of the ways we live out our faith together. God equips every believer with gifts meant to build up the church, care for those in need, and extend the love of Christ to our community and the world. Whether you enjoy hospitality, teaching, hands-on help, mentoring, administration, or behind-the-scenes support, there is a meaningful place for you to serve.

Explore the opportunities below to learn how you can get involved in Sunday ministries, children’s programs, local outreach, missions, mercy care, seasonal projects, and more. Each ministry provides a simple way to connect, contribute, and grow alongside others as we join God in building His kingdom.

Mercy Ministries

The Meals Ministry

The Rides Ministry

Mercy Ministry comes alongside those who express a felt need. For congregants, we often address financial needs (housing, food, utilities, auto repairs, and medical expenses) as well as having one of us support the person as a fellow brother or sister in Christ.

Leader: Dave Eisenhauer
davedivot07@gmail.com
This team provides meals to individuals and families in times of need (some examples include: recovery from surgery, illness, birth of a baby, death in family). We love God and others by exercising our gifts of mercy, hospitality, compassion, and outreach.

Leader: Lori Blair
lblairsp@gmail.com
This team provides rides to and from church services, events, and other church functions. Additionally, we will provide transportation for everyday needs, such as doctor’s appointments, grocery shopping, and more. The rides ministry is relational and practical because as we drive people, we get to know them and encourage them.

Outreach Ministries

MISSIONS

Community OUTREACH

The missions committee seeks to educate, mobilize, and strategize for the cause of world missions for the congregation. We connect with our supported missionaries providing not only on-going support, but also prayer and connection for the congregation. When there are special needs, we bring those needs to the congregation through special offerings or campaigns or attempt to meet those needs with other budgeted funds.

Following the elders’ directives, we focus on a select few supported missionaries instead of adding many missionaries to the list. We seek to partner with missionaries from our congregation, and those connected to our congregation, reaching out to our Jerusalem and Judea, our Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. Our goal is to meet the elders’ vision of contributing at least 10% of the total church budget to missions.

The outreach committee works to maintain a relationship with organizations we support and explore ways for the congregation to be involved in serving with these organizations. Some volunteer opportunities in our community:
  • Help with Home Repair- We are looking for a family, small group, or individual looking to help do basic, but vital home repairs for local homeowners in need. You pick the date you would like to serve, and we take care of the rest with Good Neighbors Home Repair.
  • Relationship Building- Are you good with building relationships? Perhaps you want to mentor urban youth through Urban Promise of Wilmington, or offer mentorship to adult woman who are trying learn fundamental and basic life skills through The Oaks Ministry in Oxford PA.
  • Bible Studies- Do you love to talk about the Bible with others? We have opportunities for you to teach Bible Studies at The Oaks Ministry in Oxford, or at Comfort Care Nursing Home in Brackenville, DE.
  • Teaching/Tutoring Do you have a passion to help others learn and grow? We have opportunities for individuals like you to tutor (academics) at Urban Promise of Wilmington or you can teach a one time (or ongoing) workshop with the women at the Oaks Ministry in Oxford. This can be about virtually anything you think would be interesting or helpful. (art, baking, gardening, crocheting, graphic design, etc).
We have opportunities for you to serve just one day, or in an ongoing role. You can do it on your own, or with a group of your choosing.

NURSERY

CHILDREN’S CHURCH

CHILDREN’S SUNDAY SCHOOL

The purpose of this ministry has been to provide a safe, comfortable, and nurturing environment for every child that passes through our nursery door. Our aim is for our parents to feel secure about their child’s well-being while they attend services and activities at Cornerstone. Leader: Hannah Detweiler hannah@cornerstonepca.com
The goal of Children’s Church is to help our covenant
children mature to the point where they can be active
participants for the entire Sunday morning worship
service. Children worship alongside of their parents
and then are dismissed to a class where they are
taught the Scriptures in an age-appropriate
manner during the sermon. Teachers are needed
for these classes.

Leader: Jen Smith

Children’s Sunday School is the formal teaching aspect within Children’s Ministry for children three years old through 5th grade. The goal is to teach our children foundational truths about God and the Bible. We want our covenant children to understand the redemptive story and that all of Scripture points to Jesus.

WORK HORSES

THE BRIDGE - DISABILITY MINISTRY

KITCHEN

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL

The Cornerstone Workhorses are a group of men and women who like to help from time to time with odd jobs that crop up around the church (painting, furniture refinishing, decorating for the holidays, planting, mulching, etc.) Similarly, they sometimes are called on to help when a member is incapacitated or moving and needs temporary help with packing, minor repairs, etc. This group would rather work with their hands than sit in meetings so there are no meetings, but often donuts or pizza when we're working.

Leader: Jay Gallagher
facilities@cornerstonepca.com
Our mission is to provide a space where children and families of all abilities can grow in faith, feel welcome, and belong. With open hearts and hands, we strive to remove barriers—whether physical, social, or emotional—so that everyone can fully participate in the life of our church.
