Roberta (Watts) Smolka has been playing piano since age 5. She started attending Cornerstone with her family at age 14. In the years since, God has used the opportunity of being a member of the Praise Team to develop her talents for His glory. The Cornerstone Praise Team model (put in place by the previous music director Jim Watts) of rotating worship leaders offered her the opportunity to volunteer as a worship leader before being called to the music director position. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music with concentration in piano from University of Delaware in 2005, and also attended Covenant College for one year. As a four time winner of concerto competitions during her high school and college years, she had the opportunity to perform piano as a soloist with the University of Delaware Faculty Orchestra and the Newark Symphony. Through God’s guidance, she is currently working as a freelance accompanist, teacher of private piano lessons (to school age students, including her many nieces and nephews!), and music director at Cornerstone. One of her greatest joys is to see people working together to create beautiful music for God’s glory.
