Kate Riera

Kate’s roots are in South Jersey where she was raised in the Methodist church. She fondly remembers the annual youth conference in Ocean City, NJ where she came to know the saving grace of Christ her sophomore year in high school. Studying both psychology and Spanish, Kate met her husband José her freshman year at Muhlenberg College. Together they have worked, lived, and studied at university campuses in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, and now Delaware. Another fun fact about their family is that one of their four daughters- Bella (18), Ana (15), Mia (11), and Naya (8)- was born in each of those states.

Kate completed her graduate work in Counseling and Mental Health Services (M.S. Ed.) and Family Science (Ph.D.) and also enjoys teaching in the Human Development and Family Science Department at the University of Delaware. Her professional activities have focused on counseling, teaching, and research in child development and family relationships. She has been active in the Women’s Ministry and the ESL Ministry at Cornerstone and loves the Spanish language and culture.  In her free time she gets lost in gardening, reading, baking and walking their two Havanese dogs, Coco and Javi.

Kate began attending Cornerstone and became a member in 2010. She and her husband lead a life group at their home in Newark, DE. Kate is passionate about walking alongside women in their journey of faith and seeing the Lord lead them into a deeper relationship with Him.
