1 Peter 5:8-14 | Sermon Resources | 2 March 2025
Sermon Summary
As Peter concludes his letter he reminds us that the devil is real, that the Christian life is a battle, and that we need to, therefore, stand firm in the victory that Jesus already secured for us.
Discussion Questions
- CS Lewis says we can either make too much or too little of the devil. What is the danger of each? Which error do you tend to make? How so?
- Peter compares the devil to a “roaring lion.” How does this image help us to understand spiritual warfare?
- What does it mean to be “sober-minded” and “watchful”? What do you think we are supposed to be looking for?
- Verse 9 calls us to “resist” the devil by standing firm in the faith. What are some practical ways to do this?
- How does knowing the battle with the devil is only temporary (v.10) and that Jesus still has all dominion (v.11) encourage you to engage in the battle?
- Peter exhorts us to stand firm in the grace of God (v.12). Where in your life right now do you most feel the need to stand firm?
- What has most encouraged you or challenged you from our time studying this passage?
