Hebrews 10:1-23 | Sermon Resources | 4 February 2023
Sermon Summary
Pastor Billy continues our Hebrews sermon series coming to Hebrews 10:1-23. In the sermon we will consider the difference between being right with God versus being clean before God.
Discussion Questions
1. What is the difference between being right before God and being clean before him? How are these things “two sides of the same coin”? What would you say to someone who didn’t feel clean or presentable before God?
2. In our passage this week the author compares Jesus with the “shadow” of things that existed in the Old Testament. What do you think the author means by the word “shadow.” How specifically is Jesus better that the shadows that preceded him?
3. Read verse 4. If this is true, why did people in the Old Testament perform sacrifices?
4. In the sermon Pastor Billy made the case that being made clean before God results in having:
- Confidence
- Gratitude
- Sincerity
In which of these 3 areas would you most like to grow? What gets you stuck in this area?
5. What does the author of Hebrews say in our passage about confidence? What might happen in our spiritual lives over time if we lack spiritual confidence? What might begin to happen if we grew in confidence?
6. Explain the imagery of the curtain used in verse 20. What point do you think the author is trying to make here?
7. Verse 22 invites us to draw near to God with a “true heart in full assurance of faith.” What do you think he means by a “true heart”? How can we do this ourselves? What would say to someone who was struggling in this area?
8. Thinking about one person in your life, what is one thought or idea from this week’s sermon you could share with them to encourage them?
