2. What specifically is the “promised eternal inheritance” (v.15) and how exactly did Jesus secure this for us?

3. How would you respond to someone who says, “The cross is not about Jesus absorbing God’s wrath but about magnifying God’s love”? What truths in this passage might you use?  What other passages of Scripture might be helpful?

4. How would you respond to someone who says, “Sin is nothing more than a spiritual disease”?  What is incomplete about this analogy?

5. What are some more helpful ways to talk about what sin is?  What do we learn about sin from this passage?

6. How would you respond to someone who says, “The Bible only teaches that Jesus took our sin but not that he gave us his righteousness”?  Why is it important to understand that does more than take away our sin?  What does this passage have to say on this topic?

6. In the sermon Pastor Billy made the point that Jesus’ “sacrifice of himself” (v.26) was:

  • Substitutionary
  • Sufficient
  • Scandalous

Briefly discuss each point.  In which area of understanding would you most like to grow?

7. In the conclusion of the sermon Pastor Billy asked 3 application questions.  Briefly discuss each one.  Which one most hit home for you?

  • Are you sharing with others the good news of what Jesus accomplished for us?

8. Thinking about one person in your life, what is one thought or idea from this week’s sermon you could share with them to encourage them?
