Get a Grip!

Pastor Billy continues in the Hebrews sermon series this week coming to Hebrews 3:1-6 where we will consider the call of the Christian to be courageous.

  1. Why is confidence or courage such a necessary thing in the Christian life? 
  2. What are some things the world tells us to do in order to become courageous? Are any of these paths a temptation for you? How so?
  3. In what area of your life do you need courage? How so?
  4. Read verse 1 in a few different translations (i.e. ESV, NIV, The Message). What does it mean to “consider” Jesus? 
  5. Have you ever taken an extended time to consider (or meditate on) Jesus? 
    What was that experience like? 
    Was there anything challenging about it?
    What keeps you from more consistently “considering” Jesus? 
    What can you do this week to set time aside to consider him?
  6. In what ways is considering Jesus (v.1) key to producing courage (v.6) in us? How is this different from “worldly” courage?
  7. What does this passage reveal about Jesus? 
    Which of these truths about Jesus most encourages you to be courageous?
    Are any of these truths confusing? How so?
  8. Why do you think the author of Hebrews refers to his audience as “holy brothers”? How might remembering who we are produce courage within us?
  9. What does it mean in verse 6 to hold fast or “get a grip” on our confidence and our hope? 
  10. What is one thing you will do as a result of studying this passage?
