Genesis 2:18-25 | Sermon Resources | 25 June 2023
Sermon Summary
Pastor Billy continues in our Genesis series coming again to Genesis 2:18-25. As we examine this passage for a second time we will consider five characteristics of a good marriage.
Discussion Questions
The discussion questions this week are written for married couples to discuss with each other. If you are using these questions in a group setting, the leader might need to adapt a few of them.
- Do you tend to have a too cynical or too romantic view of love and marriage? How so? How has this effected your marriage?
- On a scale of 1 to 5, how would rank the sense of purpose your marriage has? Is it just about your personal happiness? Just about tackling logistics together? How can you and your spouse take the “next step” in pursuing a greater purpose together? What might that purpose be?
- Adam looked at Eve and exclaimed “at last!” How are you and your spouse doing with delighting in each other? Celebrating each other? What is one thing you could do this week to enjoy each other’s company?
- What does it mean to you that marriage is described in Genesis 2:24 as two becoming one flesh? How does this vision of marriage encourage you?
- Sometimes we might be tempted to walk away from our marriage vows through divorce or separation but other times we find other ways of escape. We become overly busy with work, we pursue other friends, or become preoccupied with other interests which keep us from dealing with the issues in our marriage. What ways might you be escaping the commitment you’ve made to your spouse? What is keeping you from fully experiencing the “one flesh” marriage described in Genesis?
- In the garden, Adam and Eve were “naked and unashamed.” What can you do to make your marriage a safe place to be open, honest, and completely vulnerable with each other? Are there are any “secrets” you need to confess to your spouse?
- How might the gospel provide hope for any issues that were stirred as you discussed these questions?
- What can you and your spouse do to pursue grace of Jesus together?
