My Lord and My God

John 20:24-29 | Sermon Resources | 16 April 2023

Sermon Summary

We will be looking at the event that took place one week after Easter Sunday. Thomas was the only disciple who had not seen the risen Jesus and told the others he would not believe unless he could put his hand and fingers in the wounds of Jesus. We see how compassionate Jesus is and he appears and tells Thomas to touch his wounds. Thomas is filled with the Holy Spirit and exclaims Jesus is his Lord and his God! Jesus then blesses those who will believe without seeing.

Discussion Questions

  1. What doubts do you have about Jesus? Where has it been difficult for you to trust Jesus?
  2. What do you think about Thomas’ statement, “I will never believe.” Why would he say that?
  3. 1 Peter 3 says Jesus suffered for our sins to bring us close to God. How close do you feel to God today? Why do you think that is?
  4. How do you view/treat those who are struggling in their faith or have not yet believed? What can you learn from Jesus’ treatment of Thomas?
  5. Have you had a “my Lord and my God” moment in your life? Please tell.
  6.  Jesus says blessed are those who believe and haven’t seen. What does this mean?
  7. Look up 2 Corinthians 5:7. What does this say about how we live our life to God?
