Walk in Love

Ephesians 5:1-2 | Sermon Resources | 25 August 2022

Summary

Pastor Billy preaches on Ephesians 5:1-2 this week considering one of the most fundamental questions we need to settle in our own hearts:  What does God think about us?  In the passage we will see a truth to know, a promise to receive, and command to follow.

“What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us…Worship is pure or base as the worshiper entertains high or low thoughts of God.”

AW Tozer, “The Knowledge of the Holy”

“I read in a periodical the other day that the fundamental thing is how we think of God. By God Himself, it is not! How God thinks of us is not only more important, but infinitely more important. Indeed, how we think of Him is of no importance except in so far as it is related to how He thinks of us.”

CS Lewis, “The Weight of Glory”

Discussion Questions

  1. What do you think is a more important question: what we think about God or what God thinks about us?  Why?
  2. In what ways does this verse address how God views us?
  3. Spend some time discussing whether or not (or to what extent) you are tempted to view God as (1) cold judge, (2) critical parent, (3) distant relative.
  4.  Why is it easier to grasp some gospel truths with our minds rather than with our hearts?
  5. In what practical ways would you like to grow in being an imitator of God?  What might be needed to see that happen?
  6. What is one thing you will do as a result of studying this passage?
