Living Sacrifices

Romans 12:1-2   |    Sermon Resources    |   19 September 2021

Sermon Summary

Pastor Billy begins a new sermon series this week looking at Romans 12. In this introductory sermon we will see how grace rather than guilt is what should be the fuel for Christian living.

Discussion Questions

  1. What is the connection between “the mercies of God” and all that Paul calls us to do in this passage?
  2. What might be the effect on someone who is driven by guilt rather than by grace? How does someone “make the switch” from being driven by guilt to being driven by grace?
  3. Where are you currently feeling the pull to be “conformed to this world”?
  4. In what way is moral reformation not quite the same as spiritual transformation? In what ways do we settle for moral reformation rather than spiritual transformation?
  5. What does it mean to present your bodies as living sacrifices? In what situation, relationship, or area of your life do you most need to take this to heart?
  6. What might begin to change in your life if you lived as a living sacrifice?
  7. How can we as a group better encourage one another to do this?

For the Family

  1. Memorize: Romans 12:1-2 “I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
  2. Read: Luke 9:23-27 and discuss what it means to daily take up our cross.
  3. Discuss: Where are you feeling the pull to be “conformed to this to world?” How do the mercies of God motivate you to resist this pull?
