Romans 12:9-16 | Sermon Resources | 3 October 2021
Sermon Summary
Pastor Billy continues in the Romans 12 sermon series addressing how the mercies of God change how we love one another. We will consider both the nature of Christian love and a picture of what it looks like.
Discussion Questions
- Discuss the following statement: “One of the greatest obstacles to authentic community is not our differences but rather a ‘culture of niceness’ that often pervades the church.”
- What does this passage say about the nature of genuine love?
- Can you think of a time you experienced genuine love from others? What happened? What was the result?
- Of all that Paul calls us to in this passage, what is the most challenging for you? How so?
- In what situation or relationship do you most feel the need to apply this passage?
- What might begin to change in your life, in your family, in our church if we loved one another with this kind of love?
For the Family
- Memorize: Romans 12:1-2 “I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
- Read: Mark 12:28-34 and discuss why Jesus says love is the most important of all the commandments.
- Discuss: How can we do a better job of showing love to one another as a family?
