Pastor Billy continues the sermon series, Unshakable Promises coming to God’s promise of compassion in Isaiah 55. In the sermon we will see how the compassion of God is the substance of our spiritual awakening, the summary of the Christian life, and the source of our future hope.

- As you read all the “gems” in Isaiah 55, what truth is most impactful for you? How so?
- What is it that keeps people from responding to the invitation to come buy wine and milk without cost (v.1-2)? In what ways can you personally relate?
- In what way is the compassion and abundant pardon of God (verse 7) the central thought of the entire chapter?
- What is the danger of thinking of God’s compassion in merely human terms (v. 8-9)?
- What might happen to a believer over time who initially receives the compassion of God at their conversion but then seeks to live the Christian life in their own strength? In what ways have you done this?
- How does the promise in verses 12 and 13 give you hope for the future?

- Memorize: Isaiah 55:10-11 “For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.”
- Read: Isaiah 6:1-7 and discuss Isaiah’s “spiritual awakening.”
- Discuss: How can we more fully place the compassion of God at the center of our family?
