Acts 18:23-28 | Sermon Resources | 21 March 2021
Sermon Summary
In the sermon this week Pastor Billy examines the story of Priscilla and Aquila correcting the well loved preacher Apollos. We will see how the very things that Apollos excelled at were actually keeping him from growing. And yet Priscilla and Aquila saw through his success and presented a better way to him.
Discussion Questions
- Why is it sometimes difficult to believe that spiritual growth is possible?
- What were some of Apollos’ strengths? What do you think it would have been like to be around him?
- In what way can strengths become a hindrance to spiritual growth? Can you think of any examples from your own life of a strength causing a blind spot or becoming a hindrance to growth?
- SIDE DISCUSSION (If you have time): Discuss the phrase “fervent in spirit.” As reference look up Romans 12:11. Note that this is not a personality trait but a command. What does it mean to be fervent in spirit? Why does God not want us to live a half-hearted life? What might change in your life if you were more “fervent in spirit”?
- How do Priscilla and Aquila demonstrate love for Apollos? What do they do? What do they not do?
- Priscilla and Aquila really “saw” Apollos for who he was, and they responded in love. Why are we so hesitant to allow others to really “see” us? What might happen if we allowed others to see the brokenness in our lives?
- What happened as a result of Priscilla and Aquila’s encounter with Apollos (v.27-28)?
